B I O G R A P H Y |

My painting career stated relatively late in my life. I began painting on a professional level at about the age of 30. Before that I pursued an engineering career and worked as a designer / engineer at various architecture agencies in the Netherlands and Brazil. My artistic career only seriously started to take a more solid form after I took up painting classes with the Brazilian artists Anísio Mello. Although my style and subjects are completely different than his, he helped me to define my own technique and visual style. Until today I am very grateful for his help during those first few years. I live in the city of Manaus, Brazil. Manaus is a medium sized, highly developed city in the middle of the Amazon jungle. It is completely surrounded by forest and water. Although I sometimes paint typical Amazon landscapes or subjects, I am best known for my domestic animal portraits in oil and watercolor. Besides the commissions, I try to have at least once a year a solo exposition and participate in local art expositions whenever I can. In my life and work I have the tendency of valuing more what is old instead of what is new and my work besides my pet portraits reflect that idea.
